HISTORY OF THE SIENA PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY COLLECTION
The collection of instruments, tools, pharmaceutical preparations and products, today belonging to the scientific historical patrimony of Siena university known as “Pharmacological-Chemical Patrimony”, stems from the didactic and scientific teaching developed by the institute of pharmaceutical Chemistry.
The existence of one organized spice-shop located in the Spedale di Santa Maria della Scala was certified since the late Middle Ages.
Nevertheless, the Chair of Chemistry was created only in 1771, as an additional subject to the Chair of Botany and Natural History. We must await until 1817 for the Chair of Chemistry to be established
