8 May, 1965

Presidential Decree N° 1007 of the Republic of Italy provides legal recognition of the ‘Gabriele d’Annunzio’ Free University of Abruzzo. The office of the University Rector (Vice Chancellor) and the Literature and Philosophy Faculty were based in Chieti, the Economics and Business Faculty, with the adjoining Foreign Languages and Literature, were based in Pescara, and the Faculty of Law was based in Teramo.

 

29 April, 1982

The ‘Gabriele d'Annunzio’ Free University of Chieti becomes a State University with the approval of the Senate of the Republic of Italy.

 

20 February, 1988

In the presence of the Minister for Public Education, Giovanni Galloni, the University site on Viale Pindaro in Pescara is officially opened.

 

1 November, 1993

The Faculties based in Teramo separate from the ‘G. d'Annunzio’ University.

 

10 December, 1994

 

The first core exhibition on the ‘History of aging’ is set up in December 1994, organised jointly between the Archaeological Administration of Abruzzo and the Faculty of Medicine of the ‘G. d'Annunzio’ University, at the Palazzo de Pasquale, where the Faculty of Pharmacy was based.

 

 

 

 

28 January, 1998

Official inauguration of the Museum of Biomedical Sciences in the new headquarters at the University campus of Madonna delle Piane in Chieti Scalo.

 

30 October, 1999

The Madonna delle Piane Hospital in Chieti is officially opened.

 

April, 2001

The Ministry for Universities and Scientific and Technological Research (MURST) provides financial support for the Centre for Research into Aging (CeSI) of the ‘G. d'Annunzio’ University. The Centre gains great importance nationally as the first and only centre in Italy that is dedicated to research into diseases of the elderly and to activities for continuing training and education of its personnel.

 

27 May, 2001

The first heart transplant in Abruzzo is performed by a team led by Prof Calafiore, lecturer in Cardiac Surgery at the ‘G. d'Annunzio’ University and Coordinator of the Cardiac Surgery Department of the National Public Health section of Chieti.

 

May, 2002

After only seven years, the city of Chieti and the ‘d'Annunzio’ University host the National University Championships again, one of the most important and prestigious occasions in the rich calendar of national sport. The 56th edition sees the presence of such greats as the Olympic fencing champion Valentina Vezzali and the jumper Antonietta Di Martino.

Establishment of the ‘Gabriele d'Annunzio’ University Foundation.

 

16 April, 2003

Official opening of the Centre of Research into Aging (CeSI) in the presence of Minister Letizia Moratti.

 

May, 2004

The Centre of Research into Aging (CeSI) is recognized as a Reference Centre for the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

 

21 March, 2005

Official opening in the city of Chieti of the new headquarters of the Museum of Biomedical Sciences, in the ‘Arnaldo Mussolini’ Palace, in the centre of Chieti.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

October, 2006

The University Museum concludes its long research into the biological traces of Leonardo da Vinci, with the identification and patenting of a series of fingerprints that were left by the Master on painting canvases.

February, 2012

The University Museum participates to the staging of the ‘Homo sapiens’ exhibition at the Exhibition Palace (Palazzo delle Esposizioni) in Rome, through the development of the section on the vocalization of prehistoric man.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

28 January, 2013

The University Museum is commissioned to study and restore the mummy of Joseph Bey Karam, a national hero in Lebanon, and to set it up as a museum exhibit. The Agreement was signed by Prof Luigi Capasso, Director of the University Museum, Dr Fadi Fenianos, Internist at the Eden Hospital, North Lebanon, Prof Carmine Di Ilio, Rector (Vice Chancellor) of the ‘G. d'Annunzio’ University, and Father Stephane Ephrangie, Primate of the Maronite Church in Eden, North Lebanon.
