Changes in the natural landscape of Agro Pontino - Collections

Go to:  ALL LANDSCAPES  ||  HOMEPAGE

The history of how the landscape changes in space and time can be told in a number of ways, not only using maps, photos, written texts, but also materials contained in naturalistic Museums. It is possible to observe a few plants, once widespread in Agro Pontino, at the Herbarium Museum and Botanical Garden.

Inside the Herbarium

Specimens stored in Herbaria are rich sources of historic and geographic information contained in the labels of each specimen. Therefore, it is possible to reconstruct specific locations, which have since been profoundly transformed by human settlements and activities.

Inside the Botanical Garden

To find out more about tree species, which were once widespread along the entire subcoastal area of Lazio region, you can visit the city's Botanical Garden.

Sheets and images supplied refer to dried specimens of species belonging to the Fagaceae family, in Lazio region and in some parts of Agro Pontino. These tree species represent the most important components of the forests from the seacoast up to 1800 metres in altitude.
