The museum houses an osteological collection, which initially comprised objects found by the archaeologist Antonio Tamarelli in the late 19th century and early 20th century (Saint Elias series). It includes medieval skeletons removed from the Church of Saint Lucifer in Cagliari (Saint Lucifer Series) and findings taken from autopsy rooms (Present Series), just to name a few. Further additions were made possible thanks to the scientific collaboration between this museum, the Archaeological Superintendency and national and international physical anthropologists.
The acquisition of new pieces over the last few decades has helped the museum to round out this collection with finds showing several pathologies, featuring anatomical variations as well as the bones of children. This has also allowed the museum to provide improved educational and research services.
