Background
The University of Bari envisaged by R.D. 30th of September 1923 n. 2102, is established by Decree 9th of October 1924 on the foundations of the ancient University Schools of Pharmacy and Notaries activated immediately after the unification of Italy in place of the old "Royal Lyceum of Puglia".
In January 1925 it was established the Faculty of Medicine, which incorporates the existing School for Midwives and is transformed into the Faculty of Pharmacy School.
After were added the Faculty of Law, Economics and Business (born from Royal School of Commerce founded in 1882) and Agriculture. From 1944 onwards, the University was strengthened with the establishment of the Faculty of Humanities, Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, Engineering, Teaching, Veterinary Medicine and Foreign Languages.
With the Four Year Plan 1986/90, approved by Prime Ministerial Decree 12th of May 1989, it is planned the construction of university centers in Foggia and Taranto. In Foggia, it lays the Faculty of Law, Economics and Agriculture, the latter with the Degree in Food Science, the title of which will be amended in Food Science and Technology, while Taranto is set up the degree course in Environmental Science to address marine, off-center from the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Bari.
With the same four-year plan, it is also established the School of Architecture, which flows in the Polytechnic of Bari, together with the Faculty of Engineering spun off from the University of Bari.
With the 1991/93 Three Year Plan the Degree in Political Science became Faculty; the Degree in Business Administration was established in the decentralized branch in Taranto; the Earth science address was inserted into the Degree in Environmental Sciences at Marine address, in Taranto; there was the establishment, with effect from 1st of November 1993, of the Degree in Medicine and Surgery, based in Foggia, by budding from the homologous Faculty of the University of Bari.
With the Ministerial Decree of 5th August 1999, the Faculty of Agriculture, Economics, Law, Literature and Medicine, University of Foggia give rise of Foggia.
In May 2008, the Senate unanimously decided to name the University of Bari Aldo Moro.
Of particular importance the international activity and, on the floor of scientific reports, using multiple cultural cooperation agreements have been promoted, in place with European and American universities, as well as an important agreement with some Universities of China.
The University of Bari is also the seat of the Consortium of Universities of the Mediterranean (CUM), created in 1983 and recognized by UNESCO as a non-governmental supranational body to which currently belong 158 universities of all the countries of the Basin.
The University of Bari is also the founder and majority shareholder of the Science and Technology Park Technopolis-CSATA Novus Ortus, established in 1987 by the transformation of the Centre for Studies and Applications in Advanced Technology (CSATA) located on the outskirts of Valenzano, nationally and internationally known and appreciated, which signed the Magna Charta Universitatum.
In 1993 at the University of Bari it is established the Interdepartmental Centre for Scientific Museology Services (CISMUS)
