Nowadays the University of Siena is composed of 15 departments, centers that carry out scientific research and education and training activities (http://www.unisi.it/strutture/dipartimenti).

The research activities concerning the collections of the Museum System of Siena University (SIMUS) range from the History of Medicine - with forays in the fields of chemistry, biological chemistry and Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Physics - to botany, from archeology to the Earth Sciences, From astronomy to study activity in Antarctica.
All museums of SIMUS are also engaged in dissemination activities of the scientific knowledge and Guidance in higher education.
